Recycling Raffle
Recycling programs are difficult to organize and
maintain. However, the impact a good recycling program
is well worth the investment. Outlined below is a
recycling program that is effective and actually
motivates students to recycle.
-
Solicit your local trash company for recycling
barrels to place around campus.
-
Station student workers at each barrel during brunch
and lunch. You can solicit the help from different
clubs on campus or service organizations.
Oftentimes, you will find teachers who are willing
to offer class credit for partaking in the recycling
campaign.
-
Every time a student recycles, using one of the
designated barrels, they receive a raffle ticket. If
they bring ten bottles to the recycling center then
they receive ten raffle tickets.
-
Each week have a recycling reclaim center come and
pick up your recycled materials. They will keep a
percentage of the recycling profit, and you will
receive a percentage, as well.
-
Every two weeks, or when you deem appropriate,
conduct a recycling raffle during brunch. The
winning raffle ticket receives the amount of money
raised from recycling during that two-week period of
time. There have been times where students have won
$400, just from taking time to recycle.
-
Students get excited when they see the potential of
what they can earn by recycling, and we know we are
just teaching them good environmental skills.
