Decision Making Leadership Activity
Inform students, an alumnus of the high school has
passed away and has left $1,000,000 in her will for the
school. The will states that the money must be spent
entirely on the students, and cannot be spent on
classroom supplies. The will also states that the
$1,000,000 can only be spent in one lump sum, and can
only be used for a maximum of 3different programs on
campus. Your students must decide which three programs
will receive the money, and how much money will each of
these three groups receive.
Break the students into groups of six. Each student is
given a specific role to assume: athletic director, band
director, choir director, theatre advisor, cheerleading
coach, club advisor. Each student will advocate on
behalf of their assumed role. They will need to clearly
communicate their justification for entitlement of these
funds. Once the group has decided how they will spend
the money, they will need to write a brief narrative
explaining their decision.
