SCHOOL TO CAREER / CAREER DAY
There are a number of ways to incorporate
career day activities into your school. Some of these activities
involve minimal preparation, and some are more comprehensive programs. Listed
below are some school to career activities:
-
Job Shadow:
Have all of your English
classes make job shadowing a part of their curriculum. The students
shadow a career of interest for a day, and then provide both an oral and
written report to the English class.
-
Career Fair: Have all types of
businesses come into your school and sponsor an informational job fair
during lunchtime. The students can ask the businesses
questions, and may even find leads for perspective jobs.
-
Guest Speaker Circuit: Organize a day
where business owners come in to be guest speakers at the
school. Organize the day where each guest speaker spends 15 minutes
in one room and then moves onto the next. This allows for all students
to be exposed to a variety of topics.
-
Dress for Success:
Sponsor a day where
students dress up as if they are going on a very important job
interview. Throughout the day, have teachers reinforce or demonstrate
good interview skills.
