PROM THEMES
Prom Themes - Selecting an Unforgettable Prom Theme
Your prom theme is one of the most important, and first decisions your prom committee will make. Selecting a theme that is going to guarantee a great and memorable event is a key component in producing an unforgettable prom.
First, think about the type of prom you want to have, whether it be romantic, fun, mysterious, etc. Most schools develop general themes that generally set the guidelines for the prom colors, decorations etc., while other schools have become more creative, revolving the entire event around the theme, from the students costume attire to decorations. Whatever theme you choose make sure it fits the personality and customs of your student body.
Consider your prom theme as an opportunity for your school to shine. A good prom theme should revolve around a creative title, unique decorations, distinguished colors and a cherished song. Let your creative juices run wild. Have a brainstorming session and make a list of all possible theme ideas. It is important to include as many students as possible in order to generate creative ideas. To generate prom theme ideas, try to think about popular songs, movies or book titles.
Consider the following criteria for each theme before making a decision:
Try not to duplicate recent themes.
Does this theme match the personality of the venue where prom will be held? Do you want a fun prom theme, Hollywood prom theme, etc. Is this theme easy to work with? Will you be able to find decorations and props that match it?
Order a variety of prom catalogs to help inspire your theme ideas.
After a prom theme is selected, make it a goal for you committee to instill that theme in your students minds for years to come. For example, you should play your themes song in all commercials promoting your event, during any pep rallies that introduce your prom court, the entrance of your venue, during your coronation ceremony, and lastly make sure the theme song is the last song played at the dance. Every time the students hear that song play on the radio they should think of your event. Try to make sure that your themes title / logo accompanies each and every poster and publication promoting your prom. (Try to get your DJ to create your theme name / logo on gobos to project throughout the walls and ceiling of your venue) Finally, decorations, balloons, table linins, lighting, posters and publications should reflect your prom theme colors.
