Homecoming Dance Ideas & Tips
Homecoming Dance:
You will have better attendance at your homecoming dance if you do a couple of things. First, have the dance the day after the game. This way students aren't choosing between celebrating after football game or going to the dance. Second, make your dance casual. There are plenty of formal dances throughout the school year. A casual homecoming where a student feels comfortable going with friends is more likely to be attended. Lastly, make it more than a dance. A lot of high school students are not comfortable dancing, so provide other activities such as: video arcade games, inflatable games, karaoke, picture booths, etc…The more you have to offer, the more you will entice students to come to the dance.
Ideas to Consider:
Try to turn you Homecoming Dance into more than just a typical dance. There are a lot of students who will come to the dance to enjoy the games you can provide. Our goal as student activity directors and leaders is to have as many students attend out events as possible. To encourage this a couple tips include: Keeping the dance casual with no expectation that you need to bring a date. Keeping the cost of admission low. ($5 pre-sale with an ASB Card, $7 without an ASB Card and $10 at the door) The dance includes: dance, DJ package, food, games, video games, caricature artist, etc… The total cost of this dance is approximately $8,000, and we generally have between 1,500 to 2,000 students per dance. We help offset some of the costs by making dances a budgeted item at the beginning of the school year. We generally cover our costs, but it usually is not a moneymaker.
