FRESHMEN
SUPPORT / LINK CREW
Freshmen year can be both an exciting and terrifying
experience. It is exciting to meet new friends and to
try new things. All too often, we expect freshmen to
come into our schools with the knowledge of how to have
a meaningful freshmen year experience. Many freshmen
experience tremendous amounts of anxiety facing the
unknown. This, however, can be easily remedied through a
good Adopt-A-Freshmen Program.
At the beginning of the school year, solicit one senior
to mentor or adopt between 8-12 freshmen. The seniors
who choose to be involved in the program need to realize
that there is some outside school time involvement. The
mentors can serve a variety of purposes:
-
Reminder phone calling for events and activities
-
Recognize their adopted students’ birthdays or
special holidays
-
Help motivate struggling students
-
Sit next to their adopted students during games
and rallies.
-
Attend luncheons and barbeques with their adopted
students.
-
Help their students with registration
The mentors / seniors should meet with their adopted
students at least once a month. The meeting is a great
time to communicate with the freshmen about activities
that are coming up. This is also a great time for
freshmen to communicate concerns or questions about past
or upcoming events.
