CAR SHOW EVENT

A car show is a great way to allow students the opportunity to show off their wheels. Listed below are some suggested guidelines in sponsoring a fun and safe car show.

WHAT TO DO:

  1. Be sure all the cars are student owned cars. You don’t want the headache or liability of dealing with “borrowed” cars.

  2. Have sign-ups way in advance of the show. You do not want students showing up the day of the event and entering the car. Sign-ups will allow you time to properly prepare.

  3. Create a multitude of categories: best engine, best dressed, best sound, daddy owns it, dirtiest car, best import, best truck, best classic, at least I own a car, best paint, etc…

  4. Create a sign-up form clearly stating expectations. For an example click here.

  5. Find a handful of teacher / staff judges for the day of the show.

  6. Make sure all cars are placed in their predestinated spots way before the start of the school day. For example, if school starts at 8 PM bring the cars on at 6 AM.

  7. Get trophies for each category and present them to the winners at the end of the show.

  8. Bring in In and Out Burger. The car show is a great environment for a barbeque or a food day. The proceeds you make can go to help pay for the show.

  9. Create car show t-shirts for the participants. Include the price of the t-shirt in the entry fee per car.

  10. Charge an entry fee for vehicles in the car show.

  11. Hire additional security for the day of the show. You can use campus security or hire out to a private company.

  12. Dismiss the vehicles at the end of the end of the school day. Be sure to dismiss the vehicles in an orderly fashion, and be sure there is no pedestrian traffic around when vehicles are being dismissed.

  13. Hire a DJ to come in and add to the overall feel of the show.

  14. Bring on private car clubs to show off some extravagant wheels. The car clubs are an added element, and should not be included in the judging.

  15. Solicit sponsors for the show. The sponsors will help encumber the majority of the car show costs. The sponsors will provide give-away prizes to the participants.

WHAT NOT TO DO:

  1. Do not allow vehicles to leave the show early

  2. Do not allow vehicles to have their engines on during the show.

  3. Do not allow non-student cars in the show.

  4. Do not allow students to play inappropriate music in their vehicles.

  5. Do not allow passengers to sit in the vehicles with participants.

  6. Do not allow keys in the ignition.

  7. Do not allow cars in your show that have inappropriate bumper stickers.

  8. Do not…. Things will come up during the show that you will need to adjust to.

If you are organize and plan properly, your car show will be a hit.
