Pep Rally Checklist

Plan well in advance: A good rally takes time and preparation. Brainstorm with your your class possible rally ideas. What is the objective of the rally? Do you want to promote school spirit, an event, or increase attendance at games? Click here for theme, spirit, and class competition ideas.

Involve as many students as possible: It is always fun for students to watch their friends on stage. Without making your sprit rally too long, make sure to try to involve participants such as: student body leaders, cheerleaders, dancers, band members, performance clubs, drill team, flags and twirlers, sports teams, mascots, teachers, and special guests. You should also provide a sign-up day for other students to showcase their talents to you. Click here to download an example rally participation form.

Organize a Pep Rally Outline. Organize a minute-by- minute pep rally outline in order to utilize the allotted time. Try to eliminate any down time.

Publicity. In order to get as many students to attend your event, publicity is essential. Promote your event by advertising on your school marquee, school newspaper, school bulletin, posters, banners, flyers, and word of mouth! For more ideas visit our publicity section.

Communication: Make sure to remind all staff, students, parents, and community members of the date and time of your pep rally.

Team Advisors/Coaches: Make sure to keep in close communication with your coaches and  advisors about performance time limitations, theme information, etc. Personally check your performers music and uniforms well in advance to make sure they are school appropriate.

Administration: Remind your principal and administration of the date and time of your spirit rally so that they can readjust their schedule to attend your event. They may also need to make arrangements to readjust your bell to "rally schedule".

Teachers: Let your teachers know if they need to dismiss cheerleaders, athletes or any participants early for your big event.

Custodians: If needed, contact your custodial staff to let them know of special needs such as extra trash cans, bleachers being pulled out, basketball hoops up/down, etc.

Yearbook/Newspaper Staff: Let your yearbook and newspaper staff know about your event so they can organize students to take pictures and cover your event.

Participants: Send out reminders to all individuals involved in the rally.

Rehearsal: If you are fortunate enough to have the time and ability to get all your performers together before your big event, try having a rehearsal. This will give your hosts and individuals running the sound system an opportunity to practice in advance.

Agenda: On the day of the pep rally, make sure to have an agenda so that everyone knows when they will be on stage.
