Intramural
Dodge Ball
Dodge
ball has quickly become a favorite among the student body.
Dodge ball can be a great intramural activity if managed
correctly. The most important factor is to keep it safe.
Listed below are some suggestions to manage a safe
dodge ball activity.
-
Create a
sign-up sheet in the ASB Office.
-
Publicize
the event via daily bulletin or posters.
-
Purchase
playground-type rubber balls from just about any
store.
-
Create
rules with your intramural commissioner (see link
with dodge ball rules).
-
Set
up a
meeting prior to playing to go over rules with all
participants.
-
Reserve
the gymnasium for lunchtime to conduct a dodge
ball
tournament.The materials needed
are cones and rubber balls for
each dodge-ball courts.
-
Volleyball
courts generally are the appropriate size for a
match, and the boundaries are already there for you
to use.The cones will not be such a necessity.
-
Make sure
the balls are not over-inflated, or that you do not
purchase balls that are too big. The 10 ounce ball
is preferred.
-
Have an
ASB official for each court. The official is there
to determine if a person is out and to keep score. ASB students can receive class participation points
for officiating.
Game Rules
Listed below
are suggested rules for intramural dodge
ball:
-
Seven
members per team on the court at a time.
-
Three
balls per court.
-
When a
ball
goes out of bounds, the team
at whom the ball was thrown, gathers that ball and gains possession.
-
If you are
hit by a ball, you are out.
-
If you
catch a ball, the person who threw the ball is out.
-
If you
catch a ball, one of you teammates can re-enter the
game.
-
Team
members who are out can not participate or influence
the game. They can serve as retrievers for their
team, but that is it.
-
If the
game is moving slowly, the official may enter more
balls into play.
-
In a 30 minute period, the
team who has the most victories is determined the
winner. Generally, you can play games in 30 minutes.
Therefore, the team with 3 wins is the winner.
-
The top
two teams play one another in the championship game.
-
The
intramural champs play against a
faculty team at a time TBA.
