Intramural Dodge Ball

Dodge ball has quickly become a favorite among the student body. Dodge ball can be a great intramural activity if managed correctly. The most important factor is to keep it safe. Listed below are some suggestions to manage a safe dodge ball activity.

  1. Create a sign-up sheet in the ASB Office.

  2. Publicize the event via daily bulletin or posters.

  3. Purchase playground-type rubber balls from just about any store.

  4. Create rules with your intramural commissioner (see link with dodge ball rules).

  5. Set up a meeting prior to playing to go over rules with all participants.

  6. Reserve the gymnasium for lunchtime to conduct a dodge ball tournament. The materials needed are cones and rubber balls for each dodge-ball courts.

  7. Volleyball courts generally are the appropriate size for a match, and the boundaries are already there for you to use.The cones will not be such a necessity.

  8. Make sure the balls are not over-inflated, or that you do not purchase balls that are too big. The 10 ounce ball is preferred.

  9. Have an ASB official for each court. The official is there to determine if a person is out and to keep score. ASB students can receive class participation points for officiating.

Game Rules

Listed below are suggested rules for intramural dodge ball:

  1. Seven members per team on the court at a time.

  2. Three balls per court.

  3. When a ball goes out of bounds, the team at whom the ball was thrown, gathers that ball and gains possession.

  4. If you are hit by a ball, you are out.

  5. If you catch a ball, the person who threw the ball is out.

  6. If you catch a ball, one of you teammates can re-enter the game.

  7. Team members who are out can not participate or influence the game. They can serve as retrievers for their team, but that is it.

  8. If the game is moving slowly, the official may enter more balls into play.

  9. In a 30 minute period, the team who has the most victories is determined the winner. Generally, you can play games in 30 minutes. Therefore, the team with 3 wins is the winner.

  10. The top two teams play one another in the championship game.

  11. The intramural champs play against a  faculty team at a time TBA.
