Battleship Class Competition
This activity takes some preparation time
and is a live, large-scale version of the game Battleship. Prior to the activity,
create two equal-sized grids. Between the two grids,
hang a
sheet so participants cannot see one another. Each class
will have 8 participants or two boats that are four-people strong.
Consider putting the seniors and juniors on
one side and the underclassmen on the other. Once
the game begins, a person from each “boat” simply calls
out a coordinate. If he/she calls out a coordinate that has
someone on that square, then the “game-keeper” yells
"hit",
or if an empty square, conversely
"miss."
Anytime a student makes a hit,that
boat gets to throw a water balloon over the sheet. If
the water balloon hits a member of one of the opposing
boats, that team is considered sunk. A team is also
considered sunk if all four members of their boat have
been “hit."
